I usually try to be too detailed with my watercolor paintings. I tried to loosen up and push the envelope. In the background (hills and vegetation), in order to stay loose, I used Hog Bristle Brushes and applied color wet on dry. I had so much color going it eventually became wet on wet. I was happy with the misty quality of the background which closely matched my original photograph. The challenge with the small rocks in the middle background was that they were numerous and indistinct. I used a spray bottles each loaded with a different color for the midground rocks. The foreground (incoming tide) started off with wet on wet. The focal point (the washed ashore golden kelp) was done wet on dry. It was an enjoyable experience.
